NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley (NWBRV) works with families to help them build assets and purchase the home of their dreams.
“Do-It-Yourself” Home Ownership Opportunity
Twelve of the 30 homes in a new subdivision developed by NWBRV will be part of a unique program called “Mutual Self-Help Housing”. Reminiscent of church and barn raisings, families who participate can expect to save upwards of $75,000 by investing “sweat equity” in partnering to build nearly 65% of their home.
Other NWBRV-Developed Properties
NWBRV has developed over 55 home ownership opportunities for low to moderate income families over the past twenty years. From subdivisions like Woodridge Estates off of Rhodes Avenue in Woonsocket to scattered site homes, NWBRV-developed properties incorporate low-impact design features and stand out for their quality and craftsmanship. Community Land Trust Model
Many Community Development Corporations throughout RI build and sell affordably-priced homes to families with modest incomes utilizing a deed restriction called the Community Land Trust Model (CLT). The CLT keeps the price of homes affordable by separating the price of the house from the cost of the land. Read more on CLT here.
