ABOUT DOOBIE POWELL
Hubert Leander Powell III, also known as “Doobie” Powell, is a gospel recording artist and singer-songwriter who discovered his love of music through the power of faith. Born into a musical family in Hartford, Conn., Powell’s natural proclivity towards music began early, as a church-going boy, immersed in the rich heritage of spiritual music and hymns. Today, as an ordained Minister of Music, he plays a special role in bridging his loved worlds of music and religion into an uplifting experience that moves all, regardless of faith, age or background.
Powell has worked with some legendary gospel artists, including Kim Burrell and the Clark Sisters, as well as non-gospel artists like Raphael Saadiq and Robert Glasper. Most recently, he has collaborated with Harry Connick, Jr. on a song dedicated to the Sandy Hook victims. Doobie’s musical gift was featured in the movie “Black Nativity” (a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes’ 1961 musical).
