On a Friday afternoon, October 23rd, the VISTA’s and I dedicated quality time with NWBRV residents. We had a very fun day at the Meadows! Getting to know the seniors allowed me to assess the needs of their community and allowed me to let them know we are here to help. Simply letting them know I am a volunteer-in-service was a great conversation starter. The seniors were very excited to hear we would be volunteering our time with them.
We brought board games to play with them and a festive cut out to take pictures with. This gave us the ability to learn about their lives in a very fun setting. We laughed while learning about our residents’ lives and needs.
We very much look forward to spending more time with our seniors at the Meadows; however, next time we will make sure to bring dominoes (upon the request of multiple residence)!
The Meadows, senior living located in North Smithfield, is one of many development successes by NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley. Knowing what the organization has accomplished is only one aspect of building relationships in the community. I can’t wait to visit our other sites!
