Meet a Millrace Member – Celebrated

September 2, 2020 by Dulce Nunez Hernandez

NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley is thrilled to support the Millrace Kitchen, an incubator space designed to support food business startups. Since opening in 2017, over 40 food businesses have worked out of the kitchen space at 40 South Main Street.

In this series, you’ll Meet the Millrace Members, get a sense of what it takes to start a food business and learn of some incredible food and baked goods being made right in downtown Woonsocket.

Tell us about yourself and your business.

Hi, I’m Becky! I’ve been the owner of Celebrated since November 2017! I started the company to show people that vegan desserts can be delicious and enjoyed by all.

What type of food do you make?

We make a variety of desserts, including cupcakes, cakes, cookies, brownies, truffles, macaroons, and more! Our most popular items are our vegan French macarons and edible cookie dough! We just launched a sister brand called Party Sloth, so you’ll be able to purchase our edible and bakeable cookie dough in stores very soon!

What inspired you to start a food business?

I went vegan 5 years ago after visiting Animal Sanctuary in New York.  It completely opened my eyes to factory farming, food sourcing, and animal welfare.  I decided to “veganize” all of my recipes, which was surprisingly easy and many of them tasted even better without animal products.  I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so turning my passion for baking into a full-time career was the best of both worlds.

How can customers find you?

We transitioned from working at Millrace Kitchen to opening a dessert shop in Warwick, RI back in February.  The store was closed abruptly one month later by COVID. Since then, we transitioned to taking pre-orders on our website and now offer curbside pickup at our shop and free delivery through RI! Orders can be placed at www.celebrated.co

What are your food business dreams?

To revolutionize the world of baked goods, deliver happiness in the form of sweets, and eat lots of cookie dough along the way!
