Thuy-Diem Nguyen recently joined our 2015-2016 NeighborWorks America VISTA team. She will be working in the field of economic development to build the organization’s capacity.
Thuy studied at the Boston Architectural College her first year of college. Then she transferred and completed her Bachelors in Visual Arts Studies at Roger Williams University (RWU), the first in her family to earn a college degree. She was involved on campus when she connected with the Asian Student Association (ASA) and Multicultural Student Union at RWU. Nguyen took a leadership role to help plan the annual Lunar New Year Festival and the school recognized the event as the “Best Cultural Awareness Program”. Folding paper cranes and fundraising for Japan’s tsunami aftermath was another success story for ASA. With the help of Roger Williams University, the school matched the dollar amount the club raised, doubling the total of over $6,000 to the Red Cross in Japan. Her event planning and visual arts background will be an asset to NWBRV as she works with our Real Estate development team to enhance economic development opportunities in Woonsocket, where she currently resides.
In her words
“I am an AmeriCorps volunteer-in-service and my job will be focusing on economic development. I will be assisting team members from NeighborWorks with their most current residential and commercial projects at [the former] Mulvey’s Hardware and their ArTech developments. I am excited to be a part of the team and I am amazed to see how the vision is already there. Now, it is time to build.” View the real estate development projects Thuy refers to on our Development page.
