Woonsocket is now in the running to bring back the 10 week Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series to the City during summer 2019.
Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, Woonsocket, once again, hopes to qualify as one of 15 winning organizations competing in the Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards.
The Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards are an exciting matching grant opportunity created by the Levitt Foundation to serve small to mid-sized towns and cities with populations up to 400,000. Up to 15 nonprofits will receive $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series—an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians.
NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley submitted the proposal for Woonsocket in partnership with the City Administration, Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative, St. James Baptist Church, and Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. The goal is to once again bring the power of free, live music to River Island Art Park, activating the city for another summer of concerts. Woonsocket’s proposal is now posted on the Levitt AMP website for public voting. http://levittamp.org
A successful campaign for the City depends on community participation to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series to town. Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners.
Supporters are asked to visit https://grant.levittamp.org/voter-registration-page/ to register and vote. Online public voting is now open and ends November 20 at 8:00 p.m.. The Top 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. The Levitt Foundation will then review the proposals of these 25 finalists and will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners, which will be announced on December 18, 2018.
NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley asks supporters to start spreading the word to family, friends, colleagues and neighbors and rally the community to sign up and vote for Woonsocket’s proposal.
“With the success of the 2018 season, we’re very hopeful to bring this dynamic and diverse series back to the community!” says Meg Rego, Director of Resource Development & Communications for NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley. “We hope to expand the series, offering additional food options, artists, and engaging activities for all in the park. But we need everyone’s help to make this happen!”
This year, there are 41 sites in the running for Levitt AMP Funding. At the end of the public voting round we hope for Woonsocket to be within the top 10 for the best chance at winning a series. Last year Woonsocket placed 7th in the public voting round. For 2018 we hope to beat that ranking.
