We are members of two key national networks who assist us with financial and non-monetary support.
NeighborWorks America
NeighborWorks America (NWA) is the country’s preeminent leader in affordable housing and community development. NWA delivers many of its community-focused programs and services through the national NeighborWorks network – over 240 independent, community-based nonprofit organizations serving more than 4,500 communities nationwide. Together with its national and local partners, NeighborWorks provides grants, programmatic support, training and technical assistance to its national network. NWBRV was chartered as a member of the NeighborWorks Network on September 15, 1997.
We are one of three chartered members of the NWA network in RI.
Local Initiative Support Corporation
The Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) is dedicated to helping local partners transform distressed neighborhoods into resilient and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity — good places to work, do business and raise children.
They mobilize corporate, government and philanthropic support to invest in locally defined community development projects and activities through:
- Loans, grants and equity investments
- Targeted training and technical assistance
- Local, statewide and national policy support
Rhode Island’s LISC office is committed to building strong neighborhoods and healthy communities where individuals, businesses and families can thrive. Their strategies – investing in real estate, increasing family income & wealth, stimulating economic development, improving access to quality education and supporting healthy environments and lifestyles – take shape when residents and community leaders are brought together to shape the neighborhoods where they live.
Since 1991, Rhode Island LISC has invested more than $240 million in Rhode Island, leveraging an additional $920 million from public and private sources. The results: more than 7,000 affordable homes and apartments and more than 1.5 million square feet of retail and community space, including educational, recreational and community health facilities.
