We strongly believe it takes more than bricks and mortar to build strong communities where people want to live, work, and invest their time and energy, which is why our Community Building and Engagement Department’s work is so essential to our mission.
Community Building Activities
To make our communities strong, we:
- build partnerships with other organizations to increase our capacity and deliver needed services within the community.
- host events to build community and provide opportunity for residents to connect with each other. Events include the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend celebration and activities and our annual NeighborWorks Week Celebration, which is a week packed with community improvement projects and fun shared across the country by the national NeighborWorks America affiliate network.
- increase green living in the community through gardening, maintaining the community orchard in Woonsocket (on the corner of Center and Olo Streets), and by providing educational workshops on topics such as container gardening and green cleaning techniques.
- organize volunteers to beautify the neighborhood with clean-ups, mural projects and other improvement activities.
