Cyndra Kohfeldt joined our Blackstone River Valley NeighborWorks (NWBRV) VISTA team with the goal of impacting financial literacy through marketing and communications capacity building.
More about Cyndra
She graduated from UCF with a B.S. in psychology. At UCF she was a rower on the NCAA Division 1 rowing team, she participated in student council, and worked for Global Engineering as an inventory and quality control manager. At Global Engineering she set-up and implemented a new database (TortoiseSVN), reviewed product drawings, was responsible to incoming inspection of piece parts per AS9100 procedure, performed electro-mechanical assembly of a variety of assemblies related to test, including but not limited to: Special Test Equipment (STE), automatic test systems, break-out-boxes, Thermal Weapon Site Test Systems, cables, interface test adapters, and more.
Working in housing is not new to Cyndra. Throughout her college career she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Orlando Coalition for the Homeless. At the homeless shelter, she was a member of their daycare and youth program team. In their daycare program, she coordinated their art curriculum and planned their annual pre-k art gallery. She spent her hours in their youth program tutoring children ages 6-12. At Habitat for Humanity, she worked with children creating customized murals in the their bedrooms. Both experiences connected Cyndra to populations similar to those she will be serving here in Northern RI during her term of service.
AmeriCorps VISTA
The Corporation for National and Community Service spearheads the AmeriCorps VISTA program. According to their website, “more than 46 million Americans live in poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA taps the skills, talents and passion of more than 7,000 Americans annually to support community efforts to overcome poverty.” Our VISTA volunteers make a tangible difference in the community by providing critical capacity to the organization with the goal of serving those in poverty.
