As fall quickly approaches, looking ahead to our Woonsocket residents’ mental and physical health couldn’t be of more pivotal importance in our minds! The holidays coupled with the colder months can often bring with it a plethora of health needs and concerns. ENTER–SASH!
SASH–which stands for Support and Service at Home--is a completely free NeighborWorks program that is available to any NWBRV resident over the age of 57 with a disability. The program offers regular check-ins, support from SASH Coordinators, care from SASH Wellness Nurse Supports and help with home transitions from a hospital or rehabilitation stay. Whether you need regular assistance, or a hand during a time of need or crisis, SASH is for you.
“SASH is centered around residents individually,” SASH Coordinator Jessica Nin shared. “We get to know them and their preferences. We also offer a Community Healthy Living Plan! Residents can enjoy free exercise classes, education, and opportunities to socialize with their peers.”
Focused on prevention education and support, SASH participants are given all of the comprehensive tools needed to achieve their personal health and wellness goals, enabling them to work closely with resources, programs and services that best meet their needs.
The goal is for people to feel comfortable in their homes. We issue a questionnaire and institute well check-ups on behalf of our residents! Additionally, we run programming for our residents that includes everything from BINGO nights, to Meadows activities. Lucy Goulet with the Meadows is hugely involved, and has gotten our residents involved in walking clubs, poetry nights, etc! It helps keeps our residents from feeling bored or alone!”
SASH Coordinator, Jessica Nin
SASH will provide participants with everything they need to achieve their desired level of wellness. From comprehensive health and wellness assessments and individual healthy living planning–where residents are provided with specific tools and resources needed to achieve their individual goals–to a comprehensive community healthy living plan, SASH is there to be the tool we all could use in our homes and in our community.
