“All we need is music, sweet music, there’ll be music everywhere!”
To quote the classic Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas, “Summer’s here and the time is right, for dancing in the street!”
Join us for this year’s summer concert series, Levitt AMP Woonsocket 2021! From July 9 to September 17, Northern Rhode Islanders (and anyone spontaneous enough to venture north of the tower!) can enjoy live, original music Fridays from 6-9 p.m. at River Island Art Park.
In tandem with our community oriented mission, NWBRV is excited to continue our work fostering the music industry by investing in Rhode Island musicians. As challenging as breaking into the music scene can be, we believe connecting our original, local artists with national touring acts aids in giving musicians the platform they need to make and perform their own original music.
The 2021 Levitt AMP Series will pump $19,500 into the RI music scene directly through payments to artist. This investment is made possible largely due to grants from the New England Foundation on the Arts and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
“We’ve been following Kat for years individually, having seen her perform in Burlington, VT and most recently at Levitate Music Festival in Marshfield, MA,” Back Rhodes member Ed Desorcy Jr. said of the eight piece group. “It’s really not a performance to be missed. We’re kind of still in a dream that we have the opportunity to open the night for one of our favorite artists and look forward to introducing our fans to her music.”
Emerging from a pandemic laden year stronger than ever, the Rhode Island music scene is buzzing with the kind of enthusiasm that can only be found in the midst of live music. Providence-based singer-songwriter, Kim Trusty, spoke highly of the platform NWBRV gives emerging and local artists, as she looks forward to sharing her new Gospel album with concert attendees on August 13.
“NeighborWorks’ appreciation and support of local artists and talents allows the performer to perform at their highest potential,” Kim said. “It gives them a sense of purpose and respect.”
This summer’s acts, which range in genre from salsa and jazz, to rock and blues, will be pulling out all the stops to join us this summer; traveling as far as Louisiana to bring the sultry sounds of summer music to Woonsocket. Concert attendees can look forward to enjoying talented opening and headlining acts, food trucks, an on-site bar provided by Ciro’s Tavern, and the sprawling, peaceful views of River Island Art Park.
This series would not be possible without the generosity of national and local sponsors including:
EP LEVEL: Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative, Mancieri Real Estate, Milford Federal Bank, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, Bella Mente Counseling, Woonsocket Senators Murray & Picard, and Representative Casey, S. We just want to thank Meg and the entire Levitt AMP Woonsocket team for investing in local musicians and the community as a whole. The work you do doesn’t go unnoticed.”Ed Desorcy Jr. of Back Rhodes
