We’re so lucky at NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley to have a Board of Directors comprised of hardworking, committed team-players who work tirelessly at our mission of building affordable housing and enriching community life.
In this series, you’ll get to know the people behind the NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley Board.
Let’s get to know current board member, Ambrea Allen.
Tell us about yourself.

Hello! My name is Ambrea Allen. I am an active member of the Woonsocket community. I’m also an avid athlete and former student athlete. I played volleyball, soccer and basketball, while also competing in gymnastics and dance. I’m a Rhode Island native!
How long have you served on the board?
I’ve been on the board for maybe six or seven years!
What inspired you to serve on the NWBRV board?
This is kind of a funny story! I didn’t know much about the board, but a NWBRV employee told me they felt like it was something I should get involved with and would enjoy! They voted me in, and I’ve loved it ever since. I’m so glad to be a part of NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, and haven’t regretted a second of the experience!
What would you like your friends and family to know about NWBRV?
Prior to being on the board, I had no idea how much the organization encompassed or the depth of its reach. I’ve learned so much about all the work NeighborWorks does–including everything that goes on with homeownership and grants. They are so involved in the city and are truly are the forefront of development. I would recommend to my family and friends that they ask and learn about NeighborWorks, and try to keep up with everything new that’s going on with the organization. There are so many avenues that NWBRV touches upon, and you truly won’t know if you don’t ask. I would encourage my friends and family to look into the different programs, and stop to appreciate all of the businesses and nuances that flow through them. There are so many different ways to get involved in their mission.
Can you share something that NWBRV has accomplished during your time on the board that you’re particularly proud of?
The first thing that comes to my mind is the Fernwood development–it was the first project that popped into my head after seeing this question. So many pieces came together for it during COVID. It’s been so impressive to see how it developed, especially with all of the delays and different pieces that were affected during the pandemic. This is the project that has stuck with me.
