Meet The NWBRV Team – Payton Morse

April 30, 2025 by Holly Abney

We’re so lucky at NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley to have a staff of hardworking, committed team-players who work tirelessly at our mission of building affordable housing and enriching community life.

In this series, you’ll get to know the people behind the work.

Tell us about yourself.

Hello! My name is Payton Morse. I am a visual artist based in Central Massachusetts with a deep commitment to community engagement and creative placemaking. I hold both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Global Studies from Providence College. While my early academic interests were rooted in environmental issues, my focus organically evolved toward community development through hands-on involvement in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

What do you do at NWBRV?

I am a Visual Artist & Community Builder for NWBRV. I contribute to full-day programming efforts based out of the Millrace Kitchen and Event Space. Millrace is a multi-functional commissary kitchen and event venue that serves as both an incubator for local food entrepreneurs and a gathering space for community celebrations.

How long have you been working with NWBRV, and how did you start working with the organization?

In February 2024, I joined NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley (NWBRV) as a Community Builder In-Residence, initially teaching art to Woonsocket youth through after-school programming. This role soon expanded!

What inspires you to do this work?

I believe that the vitality of a community is rooted in its shared spaces—places where people intentionally come together to connect, create, and celebrate. Through their work at Millrace, I help transform a simple space into a dynamic hub of culture and joy.

What is your proudest accomplishment working with NWBRV?

Among my most fulfilling contributions is my involvement with the Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series, a free weekly summer concert series hosted by NWBRV at River Island Art Park, located just behind Millrace. Facilitating these events—where neighbors gather to experience live music, dance, and collective joy—has been a highlight of my community work. I continue to integrate art and social engagement in ways that strengthen neighborhood ties and celebrate local culture. I believe firmly in the power of curated, inclusive spaces to spark connection and inspire change.
