We’re so lucky at NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley to have a staff of hardworking, committed team-players who work tirelessly at our mission of building affordable housing and enriching community life.
In this series, you’ll get to know the people behind the work.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Tyler Martin. I live in Natick, Massachusetts with my wife and two dogs. I’m originally from Illinois, but I’ve had the opportunity to move all over the country in my adult life. I’ve previously served in two AmeriCorps programs, NCCC Southwest Campus and AmeriCorps Cape Cod with their FireCorps program. In my free time, I love playing board games, cooking vegetarian cuisine, and watching the Patriots.
What do you do at NWBRV?

I am the Accessing Home AmeriCorps Program Manager. I supervise our team of AmeriCorps members who are serving throughout northern Rhode Island with a variety of nonprofits, helping to provide housing stabilization services to those in need. I am available as a resource for our members, as well as their supervisors at their host sites.
How long have you been working with NWBRV, and how did you start working with the organization?
I joined NWBRV in December of 2021, so I am still very new to the organization. Between serving multiple terms in AmeriCorps, and graduating from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, I found this position and organization to be an excellent fit.
What inspires you to do this work?
Since I was young, I have been engaged in volunteering and service. I always have felt comfortable and happy when involved in service work, whether it be collecting food donations, recruiting volunteers, or even aiding in prescribed burns. Most service work is never complete, as there are always people to assist, but seeing the gratitude on people’s faces when you are able to be that support that they are seeking makes it all worth it.
What is your proudest accomplishment working with NWBRV?
So far, my proudest accomplishment has just been being able to join such a great team. Its been a longtime career goal to work with AmeriCorps members in a supervisor capacity and it is wonderful to be here with an awesome staff around me.
