What better way to kick off June than celebrating NeighborWorks Week right here in Woonsocket! Staff members at NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley are pulling out all of the stops to honor the nationwide impact NeighborWorks network organizations have on people’s lives.

Founded in 1983, NeighborWorks Week is an annual week of service where NWBRV and other nationally recognized NeighborWorks organizations across the United States highlight neighborhood change and awareness. By hosting a variety of events, we celebrate the collective impact these groups have had on increasing access to affordable housing and enriching community life. In unity, NeighborWorks network organizations around the country celebrate the successes of how communities, NeighborWorks and residents work together to empower people to enhance their lives.
On June 3, NWBRV looks forward to partnering with Connecting for Children and Families for Family Day at Front Street! From 12-4pm, the 719 Front Street Parking Lot will be brimming with the excitement and enthusiasm of the CCF Family Center opening. Complete with free admittance, food, bounce house, dunk tank, balloon art and temporary tattoos, this family celebration is not to be missed.

“NWBRV will be onsite sharing info on so many of our outstanding programs!” shared NeighborWorks’ very own Meghan Rego. “Please stop by for information on our Homeownership Center, Youth Programs, Millrace Kitchen and Event Space, and Resident Services! And don’t miss a speaking program at 1pm that will feature representatives fromNeighborWorks America!”
In true NeighborWorks form, this event is also not without free musical entertainment, as event goers will be able to enjoy entertainment provided by Becky Bass and sponsored by the Levitt AMP Wooonsocket Music Series.
“We are so excited to bring a fun and free family event to the city of Woonsocket!” said Development and Communications Coordinator for CCF, Taylor Crossley. “The Grand Opening Party will serve as our spring fundraiser- we hope that donations collected leading up to and at the event, as well as proceeds from raffle ticket sales will help us meet our $30,000 fundraising goal. All funds raised will directly benefit the Front Street Family Center.”
June 3 also marks the launch of our new Homeownership Center HomeBuyer Education classes! These classes are critical stepping stones on the path to becoming a new home owner. Please visit us online to peruse our available classes; which include Fast Track to Homeownership and Landlord courses!
Homeownership is a wealth builder for the future of the potential homebuyer. You build equity ownership into the property over time causing that property to have a cash value. Leveraging your purchase power to either turn the unit or units into rental income toward your retirement year or sell the asset out right. It also brings about stability to the family. Children tend to do better in stable housing.”
Rosalind Mitchell, NWBRV Homeownership Center Manager

NWBRV Volunteer Day on June 6 will include volunteers from Dell and AmeriCorps coming together in a show of support for our neighborhood and communities. Labor of love projects at NeighborWorks include painting fences and sheds, landscaping a community patio, and promoting the upcoming Levitt AMP Woonsocket Music Series.
“When neighborhoods and communities rise above their differences, nationwide issues become tangible problems,” said NWBRV Director of Resource Development and Communications Meg Rego. “NeighborWorks Week is an affirmation of what communities can accomplish when they come together. Empowered community members become able to empower others.”
