NeighborWorks Blackstone River Valley, a community development corporation serving Northern RI, seeks six outstanding individuals to provide a summer of service through AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America). Our AmeriCorps VISTA’s will function as a core part of our staff, devoted to bringing low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.
Ideal candidates will
- have initiative
- be dedicated
- have some college experience
- be comfortable working in diverse communities
- have strong verbal and written skills
- be computer literate
- be comfortable with public speaking
- be a U.S. Citizen at least 18 years of age
Areas of service focus on community development and include youth programs, community outreach, neighborhood revitalization, public safety, community health, and financial literacy programs. VISTA’s will connect closely with other staff and volunteers to stabilize communities and build personal and community assets in low- and moderate-income communities.
This position requires a commitment to serve full-time for a ten (10) week period beginning Monday, June 13, 2016. Compensation is paid directly to VISTA Summer Associates in the form of a small monthly living allowance of $983 (paid biweekly at $452.45) from AmeriCorps. At the end of the term of service, an education award or cash stipend is provided.
Each year, over 7,000 people serve as full-time AmeriCorps VISTA members. These “Volunteers in Service to America” commit to fighting poverty throughout the United States. This is your opportunity to join this national movement!
