We’re always working to keep our community safe, and that’s especially true when it comes to driving. This August, we’re offering a Senior Safe Driving Course.
Taking place on August 5th from 11am-3pm, the four hour class will be geared towards our seniors residing at The Meadows, an independent living community located in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. While Meadows residents are consistently provided with engagement opportunities, this particular course encompasses the chance for socialization to meet the opportunity for a driving refresher–which if we’re being honest, is beneficial at every age!
“We have had a good amount of interests in taking the class!” Meadows Coordinator Lucy Goulet said, ” Most insurance companies will offer discounts on your insurance if you have proof that you have taken the course. Your insurance discount is good for one year–but if you take the class every year, you will continue to get discounts!”
The AARP sponsored course, which includes a group luncheon, is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non members. AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, focuses on issues affecting those over the age of fifty. The organization, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C., is no stranger to bringing valuable education to its targeted demographic nationwide–and we feel grateful for their support here in Woonsocket and North Smithfield!
To learn more or enroll, please contact Lucy Goulet at 401-762-2333 or Lgoulet@nwbrv.org. Enrollment closes July 31st!
Taking the class will help senior residents to better understand the driving habits of our current society. Driving has become much more aggressive, and many more people are driving impaired whether from alcohol or other mind altering drugs. It’s an incredibly important course we’re offering!”
