Typically considered substantial “gut and rehab” projects, the homes were completed in 3 phases spanning over 20 years. At a cost of approximately $15.2 million, the projects utilized funding such as Low Income Housing Tax Credits. Neighborhood amenities include the Chaplin Perez Community Center (37 Center St.), which is a 3,500 square foot community center that can accommodate up to 100 guests, Stan “The Bulldog” Eason Park on Center Street, and the Community Gardens and Orchard (on the corner of Center and Olo Streets). Four neighborhood units are also in-home childcare units, encouraging home-based childcare entrepreneurs to populate and serve the neighborhood.
